Now:
I’m a Research Fellow at the Disaster Research Center, finishing my Master’s thesis on interorganizational coordination in disasters. I’m currently job hunting, hoping to return to social movement & labor movement work in a research capacity. Eventually I’m planning to finish the Ph.D. in “Disaster Science & Management” at the University of Delaware.
I’ve just wrapped my time as treasurer of the UD chapter of the International Association of Emergency Managers, and the Graduate Student Council of the Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure. More generally speaking, I’m an at-large member of Counterpower, and a happy participant in certain schemes to improve the workplace.
Lately:
I’m thinking about how disasters change people’s sense of time. For reasons I expect it to take a dissertation to explain, this is related to capitalism (ask Moishe Postone), relevant to social movements (ask a punk), and points a way to the future (ask…me, I guess). I’m also a part of the Relational Uprising and Momentum communities of practice.
Previously:
Eight years living and organizing with DC’s Love+Solidarity Collective
Five years leading digital at the Institute for Policy Studies
Three years making left-wing talk radio on DC’s WEACT
Two years training & leading civil disobedience
Organizing retail and call center workers with CWA
A little time fighting DC evictions
Originally I’m from Texas. I used to be a magician, and I got my undergrad degree in poetry. Multitudes, as Uncle Walt and Uncle Toni say.
